This Bellingham Neighborhood is named for the popular 240 acre Whatcom Falls Park which is located in the northeast section of the neighborhood. This popular park features stunning cascading falls and numerous hiking trails along the Whatcom Creek Gorge in a beautiful forested area. There is also an area for children 12 and under to fish, playground, picnic areas, tennis courts, two separate entrances and so much more. Another unique feature to this park is the Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife's trout hatchery.
Located West of Whatcom Falls Park is the Bayview Cemetery, the city's only memorial park. These two together occupy a majority of the neighborhood North of Lakeway Drive. The park system and homes are separated by Lakeway Drive.
To the south of Lakeway Drive, the neighborhood is nearly all residential with suburban character on large lots. Most of the homes are newer, single family custom homes that range from $250,000 to $550,000. It has the highest percentage of owner occupied homes and one of the lowest population densities in the city. Many of the streets are lined with sidewalks and nicely landscaped.
A beautiful wooded backdrop is provided for the neighborhood thanks to the portion of southern hillside part being undeveloped. The only retail in this particular neighborhood is a tiny little shopping center with a styling salon, a convenience story with a gas pump, a few small offices situated behind the stores and the popular Lafeen's Ice Cream & Donut Shop. This neighborhood is also conveniently located within minutes of freeway exits, Lake Whatcom and several major grocery stores.
